Chapter (1)
A ) Answer the following questions :
1 – What is the setting of the story( time and place)
The place was Europe , the time in the 1890.
2 – Why didn't Rudolf Rassendyll work?
Because he belonged to a rich and important family.
3 – What kind of work did Rose suggest Rudolf should do?
She asked him to take a job in an embassy with Sir Jacob.
3 – Why had the Rassendyll family been interested in the Elphberg family?
Because Countess Amelia Rassendyll married a member of the Elphberg  family and many of people look like the Elphberg.
4 – Where did Rassendyll decide to travel ?
To Ruritania to attend the coronation of the new king.
5 – What did he tell his family about travelling?
He told them he was going to the Alps to write about the social problems
6 – What did the owner of the in think of Duke Michael?
She thought that Michael should be the king because the real king only liked food and hunting. And Michael cared about people
7 – Why did Rassendyll decide to walk through the forest the next day?
to see the forest where the king was and might meet him
8 – Who did Rassendyll meet in the forest and why were they surprised ?
He met Sapt , Fritz and then the king, they were surprised because he looked like the king.
B ) Read the quotation and answer the questions :

1 – Who said this and to whom?
Rassendyll to his sister in law (Rose)
2 – when did he say this?
He said this while having breakfast with Rose.
3 – Do  you think a person like him is serious about work or life?
I don't think people like him are very serious as they don't look for work or responsibilities.
2 – " He has always lived in Ruritania and cares about the people , so people like him . "

2 – Who is the person talking about?
She is talking about Duke Michael.
3 – What more does the speaker think about the person?
She wishes that he would be the king.
C ) Find the mistakes :
1 – Rose is the mother in law of Rassendyll.(sister)
2 – Rassendyll was living with his brother and Flavia.(Rose)
3 – The joyous occasion in Ruritania was the king's marriage.(coronation)
4 – The hotel owner supported the king.(Duke)
5 – The Rassendylls were the royal family in Ruritania.(Elphbergs)
Chapter (2)
A ) Answer the following questions :
1 – Recall why Rassendyll looks like the king of Ruritania ?
Because Amelia was married to one of the Elphberg and her ancestors looked like them
2 – Recall  why didn't many people know what the king look like?
Because he spent most of his life outside the country.
3 – Why do you think Fritz say that it is not a good time for Rassendyll to visit Strelsau?
Because he thought there might be a problem
4 – Why didn't Fritz and Sapt eat very much? And what did they advise the king not to do?
Because they had to get up early for the coronation. They advised the king not to eat too much.
5 – What was the result of the meal?
The king ate too much then ate cakes that poisoned him so he couldn't get up the next day.
6 – Why did the Duke poison the king?
To make him miss the coronation so he would become the king.
7 – Why was not Rassendyll as sick as the king?
Because he didn't eat many cakes , he ate one  only.
8 – How and when would they get the king to Strelsau?
They would hide him in the cellar , at night after the coronation Sapt and Rassendyll would come back and Rassendyll would leave the country.
9 – Who overheard their plan? And what did they do with that person?
The servant (Johann's mother) , they tied her and locked her with the king.
10 – Why did they go to the station early?
Before Michael's men came and might kidnap the king.
11 – What was the first thing they did when they reached the capital?
They ate breakfast at the station
12 – Why were not the people from the palace at the station?
Because the king arrived earlier than planned
13 – Why was Rassendyll afraid when he saw Antoinette de Mauban?
Because she might call out he wasn't the king
B ) Read the quotation and answer the questions :

1 – Who said this and to whom?
Rassendyll to Sapt and Fritz.
2 – Where was this said?
At the train station at Strelsau when they arrived and Rassendyll wanted to eat first.
3 – What did this show about the speaker?
He was feeling relaxed and became acting like the king.
2 – " God saves both kings."
1 – Who said this and where?
Sapt said this at the station
2 – What did the people say just before this ?
They said God save the king .
3 – What did the speaker mean by both kings?
He meant the real king in the lodge and Rassendyll who pretended to be the king.
C ) Find the mistakes :
1 – Rassendyll and the king were different. alike
2 – The people cheered " Good save both kings.Sapt – the king
3 – Michael wants to be the marshal. king
4 – Josef poisoned the king. Michael
5 – Sapt asked Rassendyll to pretend to be the colonel. king
Chapter (3)
A ) Answer the following questions :
1 – What do kings and people usually do before and after a coronation?
They make celebrations and there were foods and drinks.
2 – What kind of people live in the old part of the City?
Poor people who were loyal to Duke Michael.
3 – What did Rassendyll do when the Marshal wanted him to ride through the old part of the town?
He asked him to let him  ride alone to show people that he trusted them.
4 – Why was Sapt anxious about Rassendyll's decision to ride alone?
Because people support the Duke and might hurt Rassendyll.
5 –Why did Michael's face turn white when he saw "the king" Rassendyll?
Because he thought he was still in Zenda poisoned
6 – Did Michael realize that Rassendyll was not the king?
Yes, he was the only one who realized that.
7 – What did princess Flavia say about the king?
She said that he had changed and became more serious and thinner.
8 – Why did Rassendyll and Sapt need a permit to leave the city?
Because all the gates were closed and no one could leave without permit.
9 – How did Rassendyll and Sapt get a permit from the king?
Sapt could copy the king's signature on a paper.
10 – What did Fritz do while Sapt and Rassendyll went to Zenda?
He would stay and Guard the bedroom and wouldn't let anyone entre the room even if he were killed.
11 – How did Sapt and Rassendyll get out of the palace?
Through a secret palace in the wall in order not to be seen.
12 – Who else was riding to Zenda?
Duke Michael and Max Holf were going to the castle.
13 – What do you think the message " all is well" mean?
It might mean the king was captured as Michael was planning.
14 – What did Sapt and Rassendyll find inside the lodge?
The king and Johann's mother weren't there and Josef was killed.
15 – What did Sapt want Rassendyll to do?
He asked him to continue to pretend to be the king

Because he wanted people know that he trusted them.
2 – " You mustn't try too hard. I am not sure it was a good idea to ride alone through the old town. Michael won't like it if you become too popular with his people. "

2 – Where were they?
They were on the way to Zenda.
3 – What does " there " refer to?
It may refer to the lodging house.
4 – " We will go back to Strelsau. The king will be back in the capital again tomorrow! "

Sapt to Rassendyll
2 – Where were they and what had happened?
In the hunting lodge near Zenda , they didn't find the king and Josef was killed
3 – How would the king be back in the capital ?
Rassendyll would continue to be the king
C – Find the mistakes :
1 – Rassendyll rode through the old town with Marshal.
2 – Max Holf is Johann's uncle.
3 – Sapt and Rassendyll found Johann's mother killed in cellar.
4 – Duke Michael was crowned the knew king of Ruritania.
5 – Johann rides with Duke Michael from Strelsau.
Chapter (4)
A ) Answer the following questions :
1 – What did Sapt plan to do if the real king was dead?
He planned that Rassendyll would remain the king.
2 – Why did Michael's men have spades and what does it mean that they were going to " hide their evil work" ?
Because they were going to bury Josef's body so no one would know about their crime
3 – What did Rassendyll mean that some of those evil men should join Josef?
He meant that some of them should be killed.
4 – Why did Rassendyll use a new servant ? Who was the servant replacing?
In order not to realize that he was not the real king he replaced Josef.
5 – Who were the six men?
They were six special soldiers who worked for Duke Michael , three of them were from Ruritania, one was French, one was English and one was Belgian. Three of them were in Strelsau and three were in the castle.
6 – Rassendyll decided to keep some of his plans secret from Sapt and Fritz , What were those plans?
He wanted to make himself more popular to make people support him if he had a fight with Michael.
7 – Why did Rassendyll visit the princess?
To get her support for the king(real king)
8 – Why did he do on the way to princess and what was the result?
He bought some flowers from a poor girl and gave her a gold coin , people like this doing very much.
9 – Why couldn't Michael come into the room when the king was there?
Because he wasn't given permission from the king
10 – What mistake did Rassendyll make? And how he covered it up?
When he asked why Michael didn't enter the room , he covered up this by saying that he forgot the rules.
11 – What did Rassendyll mean by the animal that bit him?
He meant Duke Michael
12 – How did Rassendyll know that the six men knew his secrets?
He knew because of the way Detchard smiled at him when he was presented to him.
B ) Read the quotation and answer the questions :
1 – " You are mad! The plan is too dangerous. "
1 – Who said this and to whom?
Rassendyll to Sapt.
2 – Where were they?
They were at the hunting lodge
3 – What was the dangerous plan?
Sapt wanted Rassendyll to continue to be the king
2 – " We have got them they can't say anything without showing their guilt"
1 – Who said this and to whom?
Sapt to Rassendyll
2 – Why did he say this?
Because he was trying to persuade Rassendyll to continue to be the king.
3 – What did he mean by " them" ?
Michael and his men.
3 – " Now remember say nothing about this. All young men like to ride their horses now and then so why not the king? "
1 – Who said this and to whom?
Sapt to the servant (fryler)
2 – Where was the speaker coming from and with whom?
He was coming from Zenda with Rassendyll.
3 – Why did the speaker say this?
Because he didn't want him think that the king was going out.
C  - Find the Mistakes :
1 – Duke Michael was holding the king as a guest.
2 – If the real king died, Rassendyll would escape.
3 – Rassendyll bought some cakes from the poor girl.
4 – Rassendyll told Michael that a cat bit his finger.
5 – Of the Six men , four of them were Ruritanians.
Chapter (5)
A ) Answer the following questions :
1 – Rassendyll has never liked responsibilities, now he has many what are they?
He had the responsibility of saving the king and saving the country.
2 – Why did Rassendyll become good at pretending he had forgotten rules or people?
Because when he made a mistake he had to cover it up by pretending he forgot a person or something.
3 – What news did Sapt bring concerning the real king?
The king was at the castle Zenda
4 – Why did Rassendyll want to go to Zenda?
He wanted to rescue the king.
5 – Why did Sapt have Rassendyll followed everywhere? And what did he mean by " If you disappear , the game is over" ?
To protect him from Michael's men. He meant that if they killed or kidnapped him , they would kill the king , Michael would be the king so the game would be over.
