5-Read the following passage, then answer the questions:
Ten years ago, personal computers, CD players, satellite dishes, and
microwaves were available but hardly commonplace. Most of us were only
thinking about them rather than buying them. Now, of course, if we don’t
have them, there has to be a reason why. Nothing at first seems as so
revolutionary as the latest advance; and nothing becomes mundane so
quickly. And in the past thirty years ago, latest advances have been coming at
us faster than any time in history. The latest advances in 1974 were the pocket
calculator and the home freezer. And these were the successes. At the same
time, a diet made from processed soya beans was being sold as a coming
thing. Banks and telecommunications networks are working on new systems

6-Read the following passage, then answer the questions:
Jesse was playing in the sea late one evening when a shark attacked him and
tore off his arm. Jesse’s uncle leapt into the sea and dragged the boy to the shore.
Jesse’s aunt gave the boy mouth-to-mouth resuscitation because he had stopped
breathing. They called the emergency services and a helicopter flew Jesse to
hospital. It was much quicker than a journey by road. Jesse’s uncle ran back into
the sea and found the shark that had attacked his nephew. He shot the fish, threw
it on the beach, the shark’s jaws relaxed and he was able to open them and reach
down into its stomach and pull out the boy’s arm. At the hospital, the surgeon
spent 11 hours re-attaching Jesse’s arm. The park guard said that Jesse was
unlucky, “evening is the shark’s feeding time.” “This would never happened if
he had been in a designated swimming area.”
