The
police find most criminals because somebody tells them who the
criminals are . They find other criminals by using science and their
computers . When there is a bank robbery , the police first look through
their computers for the names of bank robbers they know about. Then
they go and talk to any of these robbers who are not in goal.
They
ask them where they were at the time of the robbery . If any of these
people cannot give a good answer, the police will often use science to
find out if one of them is the robber.
Many criminals leave something
of themselves at the place of the crime , like a fingerprint or a hair.
Or they take something away on their shoes or clothes , like dirt or
animal hair . If they leave behind some of their blood or a hair or a
piece of skin , it will have their DNA inside it. Everyone's DNA is

is .

The Wall of China is so large that the men who landed on the moon could see it. It is the largest wall in the world .
It begins at Shanhaikun on the Yellow Sea and ends at Chaiyukan in the Gobi Desert . It is almost three thousand kilometres long . It is not only a wall, it has many thousands of towers . Most of the wall is made of stone . In some places , however, it is made only of dirt .
The Chinese people started building walls as early as 600 BC to keep out their enemies. However, it was the first emperor of China , Ch'in Shih Hwang-ti , who started the Great Wall in about 214 BC . We get the word " China " from his name .
Chinese workers built some of the Great Wall while Ch'in Shih Hwang-ti was emperor , but most of it was built much later , between 202 BC and 220 AD , and between 581 AD and 618 AD . After this time , no more work was done on the wall for hundreds of years , and much of it became broken . Then in the 15th century , the first of the Ming emperors started building another wall near the first one . This was to keep out the Mongols . It is this wall that thousands of tourists visit every day .

I had dreamed of this moment for years , and now I wanted to know that I deserved the chance . I could hardly believe it - I was playing for the school football team at last ! As I ran out onto the pitch , the sun was shining brightly and the crowd were cheering loudly.
The whistle blew , and the game began . At first I felt very nervous , but I soon began to relax , and I knew I was playing really well . Both teams were trying hard , but no one could get near the goal . Then , just before half time , Jordan headed the ball to me i passed it to Wesley , and he scored ! The crowd went wild , and I was proud that my pass had helped to put us in the lead .
I was still feeling pleased with myself at the start of the second half. A minute or two later, though , I was running towards the ball when I slipped and fell . It was very embarrassing - but worse than that, after I tried to stand up , I realised I had twisted my ankle and I couldn't walk . As the trainer helped me off the pitch , I felt like crying .
It took me a few days to see the funny side of the story . Now I look back and laugh . It's true what they say - pride comes before a fall!
