When she was two years old, Helen Keller suffered a severe illness which left her without sight or hearing. She lived in darkness and stillness and her life was without past or future. The most important step in her education was learning how to read. By raised letters on cards, she learned to recognize words. Despite blindness and deafness , she had the will to learn how to communicate with other. Helen used to study outdoors, she felt roses in gardens. She pressed them softly in her hands. She enjoyed nature by feeling and touching the dew in the grass. Helen had great pains but she was able to join the university. She got a degree in 1904. She spent her life helping the blind and the deaf. Helen worked and wrote for them. She never gave up and always thanked God who gave her the blessing of being alive.
